More about Mattress Topper
A mattress topper made from natural materials can transform your bed: more comfort, a better sleeping environment and protection for your mattress – with no synthetic foams. At Taiga, you’ll find toppers and mattress pads from Prolana made from virgin wool, cotton, silk and hemp, breathable and free from questionable treatments.
How to recognise a good mattress topper
- Material: Virgin wool regulates temperature and absorbs moisture, cotton is easy to care for, silk feels light and luxurious, and hemp is naturally hard-wearing.
- Height: From a gentle 4-cm layer to a 9–10 cm topper that noticeably changes how your mattress feels – the height determines the effect.
- Elasticity: Point-elastic toppers give way where your body rests, rather than sinking across the whole surface.
- Construction: Free from questionable treatments – important for anything that lies so close to your body.
Our brand: why Prolana
Prolana makes toppers and mattress pads to proven artisanal standards using natural materials: from LUNA with 4 cm of virgin wool or cotton, and ISABELLA and LATOIA with 9 cm, to NUBA with 10 cm of silk and virgin wool. The range also includes mattress pads such as PADUA made from silk and virgin sheep’s wool, PIACENZA made from hemp and FIRENZE made from cotton.
Topper or mattress pad – what do you need?
A topper is the thicker layer that noticeably changes how your mattress feels and helps protect it. A mattress pad is flatter and lies directly beneath the fitted sheet – it mainly improves the sleeping environment and makes the surface more comfortable. If your mattress feels too firm, choose a high topper; if you mainly want to improve temperature regulation and comfort, choose a mattress pad.
What height should a mattress topper be?
As a rule of thumb: 4 cm refine how your mattress feels, while 9 to 10 cm change it noticeably. The less satisfied you are with your mattress, the more height you can choose.
What are the benefits of a virgin wool topper?
Virgin wool naturally regulates the sleeping environment: it provides warmth, absorbs excess moisture and helps create a dry, comfortable sleeping environment – with no synthetic fibres.
Does a topper protect the mattress?
Yes. Toppers and mattress pads absorb wear and moisture, are easier to air and therefore extend the life of your mattress.
For a complete natural bed: combine your topper with bed slats, organic duvets and organic fitted sheets – or discover everything you need for healthy sleep.
