Cookware

Sustainable cookware is an investment for decades: at Taiga, you’ll find enamel pots, pans, casseroles and starter sets from Riess — featuring a glass-hard enamel surface made from natural minerals on a robust steel core. Instead of coated pans that need replacing after just a few years, you’ll find cookware here that lasts for generations.

What to look for in good cookware

  • Material: Enamel is made from natural minerals such as quartz, feldspar, soda and iron oxide. Firing it at high temperatures creates a smooth, hard-wearing glass surface — with no synthetic non-stick coating.
  • Details: Wooden handles on selected pans and pots are a natural alternative to plastic and feel comfortable in the hand.
  • Extras: Stainless steel is used for kitchen utensils such as bowls and sieves — durable and recyclable.

Our brand: Riess

Riess has been manufacturing in Austria for over 450 years: the family business began in 1550 with a small forge and has grown into the internationally renowned enamel manufacturer it is today. Production takes place under strict environmental regulations — and has been powered by its own hydropower since 1926. This sustainable manufacturing is also reflected in the Taiga Eco Rating. The range includes the extra-strong NOUVELLE enamel frying pan, the Schnabeltopf, the Aromapots casserole with lid and the 3-piece PUR Starterset — a compact cookware set for getting started.

Practical knowledge: how to care for enamel

Enamel can withstand a lot, but it doesn’t like extremes: heat pots and pans slowly and avoid sudden changes in temperature — in other words, don’t pour cold water into a hot vessel. It’s better to soak dried-on residue than to scrub it. Find matching additions in pots, pans and baking tins, as well as in kitchen accessories.

What is enamel made of?

Enamel is made from natural minerals such as quartz, feldspar, soda and iron oxide, which are fired to create a glass-hard surface. It contains no synthetic non-stick coating; when intact, the surface is neutral in taste and does not react with food.

What belongs in a basic enamel cookware set?

A good place to start is the 3-piece PUR Starterset from Riess. Add a sturdy frying pan and the casserole with lid — and if you want to cook gently, complete your set with the Aromapots steamer insert. You don’t need anything else to get started.

How long does an enamel pot last?

With proper care, it can last for decades: the fired surface is hard-wearing and barely ages — its weak point is hard impact, which can cause the enamel to chip. Avoid sudden temperature changes and knocks, and an enamel pot will serve you for decades.
