About Riess

Riess is an enamelware manufacturer from Ybbsitz in Lower Austria’s Mostviertel region. Since 1922, it has made enamel cookware there, on a site where iron has been processed since 1550.

Where Riess comes from

  • 1550: a pan forge was founded on the Ybbsitz site
  • Family-owned since 1690
  • In 1922, brothers Julian, Leopold and Josef Riess began enamelling cookware
  • Today Riess Kelomat GmbH, run by the ninth and tenth generations according to Riess

What enamel is

  • Glass on steel, permanently fused in a kiln at 850 °C
  • According to Riess, enamel is made from quartz, clay, feldspar, soda and potash
  • Steel sheets from Voestalpine in Linz, cold deep-drawn in Ybbsitz
  • Two to four enamel layers: ground coat and cover coat
  • Up to 40 stages per piece

Ranges

  • Classic: classic Riess shapes
  • Nouvelle: including Nouvelle Aura with AromaPlus lid
  • Aromapots: made entirely from steel and enamel, without attached plastic parts
  • Serve+Store: bake, serve and store in one dish, awarded the Red Dot Award 2022

Cooking and care

Riess enamel has a magnetisable core and works on gas, electric, ceramic and induction hobs. You do not need to use the boost function. The cookware is dishwasher-safe; for a lasting shine, Riess recommends hand washing.
