The Rubber Tree (Hevea brasiliensis) – Main Source of Natural Rubber The rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) is originally from South America, particularly the Amazon region. Today, however, it is mainly cultivated in Southeast Asia, in countries like Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. These regions have become the largest producers of natural rubber, as the climate there is optimal for cultivation. In South America itself, the cultivation of the rubber tree is less common due to the South American leaf blight (Microcyclus ulei), which severely damages the trees.
