Rua is the Vietnamese word for turtle.
In Vietnamese culture, the turtle has a special place. It represents wisdom and longevity and appears in many famous legends. Hoan Kiem Lake or Lake of the Risen Sword in the center of Hanoi is associated with a myth about King Le Loi, who received a sword from a magical turtle in the lake with which he could defeat his enemies.
The rectangular blade shape is typical for this Asian vegetable knife. The tip of the knife is slightly rounded to facilitate chopping and cutting vegetables. The knife is ideal for preparing carrots, cucumbers, cabbage and other vegetables.
Each of our knives is handmade by a traditional blacksmith's workshop in Cao Bang in northern Vietnam.
Since carbon steel blades are not rustproof, the knife should be washed by hand after each use and dried directly. After a few weeks of use, a natural, superficial discoloration forms on the blade, the patina. It protects the blade and gives it a unique character. If the knife is not used for a long time, we recommend rubbing the blade with a little vegetable oil.
